Yusuf 12:108
The Prophet "peace be upon him" first himself followed the Quranic guidance and then as a part of the call of this guidance , invited every one to follow it , By practicing it first , he set the example and urged the people to follow the same.
He asked them to observe his way .
In this sense he is in Islamthe first monotheist, the first believer and the first Muslim , a point recognized by Allah :
(قل إن صلاتي ونسكي محياي ومماتي لله رب العالمين * لا شريك له وبذلك أمرت وأنا أول المسلمين)
"Say (O Muhammad " peace be upon him" )Verily, my prayer,my sacrifice , my living , and my dieing are for Allah alone, the Lord of all that exists.
He has no partner, And of this I have been commanded ., and I am the first of the Muslims "
(Al-An`am,162-163)

Identification of the way to Paradise
The straight Path.
رضي الله عنه Narrated Abdullah bin Mas`ud
" خط لنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم خطاً ثم قال: " هذا سبيل الله " ثم خط خطوطاً عن يمينه وعن شماله وقال " هذه سُبثل , على كل سبيل منها شيطان يدعو اليه وقرأ ( وإن هذا صراطي مستقيما فاتبعوه ) الآية "
Allah`s Messenger "peace beup on him " drew a straight line ( for our comprehension) saying that it is the way to Allah >. Then he drew oblique lines on both the left and right of the straight line , saying that satan prompts you to follow these . He recited part of qur`anic verse: " This is My Way , the straight one. So follow it…

رضي الله عنه The Following narration of Muawiya
Is reported in the Hadith collections of Ahmad and Abu Dawud that Allah's Messenger "Peace be up on him" said :
"اثنتان وسبعون في النار وواحدة في الجنة وهي الجماعة وأنه سيخرج في أمتي أقوام تتجارى بهم تلك الأهواء كما يتجارى الكلب بصاحبه لا يبقى منه عرق ولا مفصل إلا دخله"
"Seventy –two sects would be in a hell while one in Paradise. This one would be Al –jama`ah * There would emerge many groups from my Ummah and they would be overwhelmed with desires ( their beliefs and actions tainted with heresy )as rabies overtakes ones body affecting its each muscle and joint . " Abu Dawud.
*The Prophet – Peace be up on him – speaks of those who would achieve deliverance as Al – Jama-ah . Bearing connotation s of union, gathering and unity while sect denotes separation, disunity and disorder.
May Allah save us against sectarianism

Way of Prophet- Peace be up on him- and his Companions.
The Prophet - peace be up on him- identified the saved group as the one that would follow his way and f his companions. As already noted, the straight line drawn by him and branded as Allah `s way is the one pursued by him throughout his life . same was the practice of his more than one hundred and twenty –five thousand Companions. In terms of the way of life , rituals , beliefs and actions one should obey the Prophet - peace be up on him – and his Companions . Success lies in following only this way .
The saved group would follow in the footsteps of the Prophet –peace be up on him – and his Companions in all matters – rituals, beliefs and actions.
Command to revive Sunnah
The Prophet –peace be up on him - has commanded that his neglected and abandoned sunnah be revived ;and he promised a great reward for those who circulate and propagate his Sunnah . Bilal bin Harith narrated that the Prophet –peace be up on him – said :
" من أحيا سنةً من سنُتي قد أُميتت بعدي فإن له من الأجر مثل أُجور من عمل بها من غير أن ينقص من أُجورهم شيئاً "
رواه الترمذي وابن ماجه
" Whoever revive a Sunnah of mine which was neglected after me is entitled to the same reward which is due to those who Practise it. And it would not render any loss to their rewards .

In the prophet company:-
"من أحب سنتي فقد أحبني ومن أحبني كان معي في الجنة "
Anas narrated that the Prophet "peace be up on him " said : " One who hold my Sunnah dear , befriends me and such a person would be in my company in Paradise
"Mishkat".
The above Hadith Proves that Holding Sunnah dear would result in gaining the Prophet company in Paradise .
You must therefore follow sunnah in that it is the way to salvation.
Life – giving call of the Prophet "Peace be up on him ".
قال تعالى " يا أيها الذين أمنوا استجيبوا لله و للرسول إذا دعاكم لما يحييكُم واعلموا أن الله يحول بين المرء وقلبه وأنه إليه تحشرون " سورة الأنفال 24
"O you who believe ! Answer Allah and "his " Messenger when he calls you to that which will give you life , and know that Allah comes in between a person and his heart . And verily to Him you shall be gathered. ( Al-anfal,8:24).
It is learnt from the above verse that The Prophet's call is a message of life to Muslims . whoever answer it and practices person and his heart , and verily to him . Allah grants him life and spiritual purity .
Thus it is evident that the prophet's call signifies our spiritual life , life of our heart and faith , when we answer his call and practice sunnah , Allah would bless us with spiritual life which would help us in the Hereafter. This point is worth remembering.

Reciting Surah Al- Fatihah:-
"
لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتاب "
The Prophet -Peace be upon him-Emphasized that Surah Al-Fatihah be recieted in salat"pryer". H even said :
"لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتاب "
"No salat is valid without the recitation of surah-Al-Fatihah- "Bukari and Muslim"
What is meant is that everyone whether Imam or one praying behind him or one praying singly. And in Fard "obligatory" or in Nafl "Optional"prayer,one must recite this surah in that a prayer without it is not valid.

To rise ones finger in testimony:-
While praying , the prophet Peace be up on him in reciting "I testify that there is no God but Allah " raised his finger so that the verbal testimony of Oneness be reflected by this physical gesture. More than one hundred thousand companions observed this regular practice of Prophet "peace be up on him '.
Narrated Abdulah bin Zubier :-
رضي الله عنه " كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يشير بإصبعه إذا دعا"
The Prophet peace be up on him used to raise his finger while supplication during his salat . " Abu Dawud and nasai "
There is another command of prophet peace be up on him .
Narrated ibn Abbas
رضي الله عنه " لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم زائرات القبور والمتخذين عليها المساجد والسرج "
Allah's Messenger Peace be up on him cursed the women who visit graves and those taking graves as places of worship and those lightning lamps at graves " Abu Dawud , Tirmithi and Nasai"
